Cool-Lux Releases New Lux Gear Kits For Follow Focus and Extends Warranty to Full Lifetime.

Cool-Lux introduces seven new Lux Gear Kits to pair with top of the line prime photo lenses often used in cinema video. These new Lux Gear Kits provide seamless 360° cinema pitch gearing to mesh with any standard follow focus. The gears can easily be installed for motion picture shooting or removed for still photography. The kits feature specific gear sizes sold in groups of 3 or 4 to fit certain manufacturers families of prime lenses and offer a discount over purchasing each gear separately.
The following are the newly released kits and the lenses they are meant to work with.
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Milvus Lenses [Nikon Mount] includes four Lux Gears to fit the Zeiss Milvus ZF.2 line of lenses: 21mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Milvus Lenses [Canon Mount] includes four Lux Gears to fit the Zeiss Milvus ZE line of lenses: 21mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Otus Lenses includes three Lux Gears to fit the Zeiss Otus line of lenses: 28mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Loxia Lenses includes three Lux Gears to fit the Zeiss Loxia line of lenses: 21mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2, 50mm f/2
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Classic Lenses [Nikon] includes four Lux Gears to fit a collection of Zeiss Classic ZF.2 lenses: Distagon T* 2/25mm, Distagon T* 1.4/35mm, Planar T* 1.4/50mm, Planar T* 1.4/85mm
Lux Gear Kit for Zeiss Classic Lenses [CANON] includes four Lux Gears to fit a collection of Zeiss Classic ZE lenses: Distagon T* 2/25mm, Distagon T* 1.4/35mm, Planar T* 1.4/50mm, Planar T* 1.4/85mm
Lux Gear Kit for Canon L Series Prime Lenses includes four Lux Gears to fit a set of Canon L Series prime lenses: 24mm f/1.4L, Canon 35mm f/1.4L, 50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.2L
Lux Gears are designed to stretch over the focus barrel of a lens and stay in place with a tight compression fit. This new patent-pending design eliminates the need for buckle mechanisms or screws and in turn allows for a clean, continuous 360° of rotation. The gears can be quickly installed or removed without the need for any tools and are completely reusable. The gears are available in 16 sizes covering lenses with focus barrel diameters ranging from 60mm to 92mm.
Cool-Lux has also extended their warranty on all Lux Gears from a limited one year warranty to a Full Lifetime warranty. If a Lux Gear ever becomes damaged over the lifetime of the purchaser, the product can be returned to the manufacturer for a replacement gear at no charge.
Product Manager and Lux Gear designer, Patrick Fee says, “The decision to extend the Cool-Lux Lifetime Warranty to the Lux Gears was simple. We offer unique products that just work. If for some reason one of our products stops working, even if it was fairly cheap to begin with, it makes sense for us to take responsibility and repair or replace that product. The burden should never fall on the customer because that would just lead to frustration. Frustration is something we try to identify and eliminate through our unique product designs.”
Lux Gears have been very well received following their recent release.
Seattle based documentary filmmaker Dan McComb says, “these gears are unique in my experience in that they are made of a firm yet flexible silicone, which has just enough stretch to slip on over protruding zoom lens elements. Yet when finally worked into place, they stay put. Even with constant ins and outs from a camera bag, they don’t budge and have the look and feel of a permanent solution. Plus, they can still be removed when desired...making Cool-Lux gears the best focus gears I’ve ever owned.”
Dan Chung of Newsshooter.com says, “You can put these on and take them off your lens incredibly quickly depending on whether you want to shoot stills or video. They’re not like some of the more expensive solutions that you see which are permanently left on the lens and are pretty hard to get off...I am happy to recommend them”
“I think these gears are great and I can certainly recommend them to anyone looking to add follow focus gears to their lenses.” says Alan Besedin of VintageLensesForVideo.com, adding, “It’s quite an amazing semi-permanent and yet very flexible focus gear.”

Wish I heard about this sooner! Just order a set for my Loxia primes after a 4 months (FIVE MONTHS!) of wait on Zeiss LensGears that they’ve promised to ship out in April, and still in August they’re yet to be released. If these gears work as promised (which I have no reason to suspect otherwise) they should be considered a total no-brainer, especially given the very reasonable price. Looking forward to receiving my set in the mail!
